Louisiana LotteryLouisiana Lottery: Louisiana Lottery making changes to Lotto game in August
Rating:

Multi-draw ticket purchases to be limited in run-up to first drawing of new format

By Todd Northrop

For just the fourth time in the Louisiana Lottery’s 28-year history, the state’s flagship Lotto game is being changed in August.

The biggest change lottery players may notice is that the game’s minimum starting jackpot has been doubled to $500,000. A large jackpot is important when trying attract current and new players to buy a ticket.

“There will be more to love about Lotto this summer with more frequent $1 million-plus jackpots that our loyal Lotto players enjoy,” Lottery President Rose Hudson said. “Our players have spoken, and we listened with a Louisiana game that is still just a dollar.”

To create larger starting jackpots, the redesigned game will add two numbers to the game’s matrix, requiring players to select six numbers out of 42 and bumping up the overall odds of winning to 1 in 34.4. The current matrix is six of 40 with overall odds of 1 in 30.

The odds of winning the jackpot will change to 1 in 5,245,786 from the current odds of 1 in 3,838,380.

The match-5 and match-4 prizes will continue to be pari-mutuel, meaning the actual prize won will be determined by dividing each respective tier’s prize pool by the total number of winners for that drawing. The match-5 prize will average $1,000 (down from a current average of $2,000) and the match-4 prize average stays the same at $50.

The new Lotto rules go into effect starting with the August 5th drawing.

Because the matrix will change, the Lottery will temporarily suspend the multidraw option for Lotto to prevent future draw purchases that eclipse the new version’s sale date of Aug. 2. On Aug. 2, multidraw will return to full functionality under the new game matrix. The multidraw option allows players to purchase tickets for a select number of future drawings.

The Lotto multidraw option will be stepped down as follows:

Multidraw OptionLast Day to Purchase

20-Draw TicketWednesday, May 27, 2020
10-Draw TicketWednesday, July 1, 2020

This is what l like hearing from people who run the lottery’s: Rose Hudson said our players have spoken, and we listened..” if only that mentality can be passed onto the MUSL who changes the matrix on a whim without any input from the LOYAL players out there. Oh well.

MUSL does as it pleases.   Gone are the days where we’d see bump ups of jackpots.   For example tonight’s mm is $298 million and there it will stay.  Oh well is correct as you say noise-gate.

I’m in Louisiana and this sounds pretty good, especially with the new minimum jackpot. I’ve been a loyal Louisiana Lotto player since the beginning and will keep on going.

From the article: “The match-5 prize will average $1,000 (down from a current average of $2,000) and the match-4 prize average stays the same at $50.”

And I guess the match-3 prize stays the same? With the probability of winning a prize decreasing at every prize level, this is a pretty shetty change for those hardcore players who are spending $20 a week or more and  hitting those lower tier prizes somewhat consistently. For the casual Lotto players who only play when the jackpot reaches a certain level, it’s probably an improvement.

I guess the lottery’s math people worked it out, figuring the hardcore players won’t alter their habits no matter what changes the lotteyr makes, but the casual players will play more often.

If this is a S@#%* deal as you put it, then the players from that State should call Hudson’s bluff. She said ” they listened & made improvements.” PrisonerSix is in Louisiana & thinks it’s a pretty good deal. You not suggesting that PrisonerSix has loco reasoning are you?

What are you ranting about? db101 is right. Making the odds worse and halving the second prize level is definitely a change for the worse for a certain type of player.

… Sooper dooper top seekrit winning numbers: 5 16 17 24 33 52 …

First off Joe: l do not live in Louisiana. Second, Rose said that they listened to the players and took their advice & made changes to the game. I don’t care to know what those changes are BECAUSE l do not live there. That is subject to interpretation by the players of that State.l stated if he thought the changes were BAD, he should take that up with PrisonerSix. Once again, l do not care to know about their games, so my question to you is ” What the 7%%^$# are you on about?”

Yesterday I went to a convenience store, the manager would not sell me a book of $5.00 scratcher tickets for $250.00 They were locked up in her office, and the lottery is not sending as many books as before. So, the store has to have some tickets in stock, or the store would have no business at all. Scratchers are impulse buys. I was my impulse to say oh well, and turned around, and walked out the store. She wanted me to buy only the 21 in the dispenser bin. Which was an older ticket, with only 1 jackpot amount left. I wanted the newest one released, not the months old one. She had them, but would not sell them. Mad

All number sets are contenders until the drawing occurs.

Chill out, dude and quit creating conflicts out of nothing. You don’t need to be a Louisiana player to follow the money of a pretty simple business decision. They listened to players who wanted better jackpots and delivered that, but at the expense of the small wins, which are enjoyed most often by players who buy in consistently.

You don’t need to be a math whiz to understand that when a lottery increases prizes in one area, they have to decrease them somewhere else. Frankly even a Cheez Whiz should be able to understand this simple principle.

$313 Million

Increase of $15 million.

Any other wisdom to share?

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that’s designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners.

Lep

There is one and only one ‘proven’ system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Hey I don’t keep odds on certain #’s coming up, but when Alexa told me all even #’s across the board and even Multiplier thought that somebody would’ve won!   Won $16; more play for the pay, Two MM/MP; Two PB/PP!  Rest CB 225.

Do you really believe Hudson “listened” to the players or just decided adding more numbers makes the game harder to win will increase the size of the jackpot creating more revenues?

Louisiana already has PB and MM and no logical reason why “the players” want another large jackpot that is difficult to win.

The match-5 prize will average $1,000 (down from a current average of $2,000) and the match-4 prize average stays the same at $50.

But “prizes will continue to be pari-mutuel” and if adding more numbers makes it harder to win the jackpot, the increase should make it harder to match 5 numbers too. Maybe it’s just me but if they make something harder to do, doesn’t common sense dictate less will do it?

Just another “clear as mud” statement from a lottery director.

Do you really believe Hudson “listened” to the players..” Frankly, l don’t know, but as l responded if she is screwing the players over ” CALL HER BLUFF.” Dictionary definition: to mislead by a display of strength, self-confidence, or the like.

Tell her to her face that she is being dishonest with the players. It is pointless pointing a finger at me as though l am in league with her. The other thing some people seem to forget is that: When LP puts up a news article, they state: We love to see your comments here. Telling posters in not too many words ” l don’t like your comments are childish to say the least.” This is a forum, no need for some to get upset over little things, and yes, any lottery is not going to stack the deck against themselves, they in the business of making money in order to survive, in fact, little brainpower is required to figure that one out.
